The singer broke his silence after Avril Lavigne called off their engagement.
Mod Sun and Avril Lavigne are no longer together after Lavigne recently called off their engagement.
The two have gone their separate ways after two years, with Mod Sun, real name Derek Ryan Smith, admitting he was blindsided by the decision.
Mod Sun describes his heartbreak
In an emotional Instagram post, Sun admitted that his heart is broken following the split.
‘In 1 week my entire life completely changed…,” he wrote. “I just know there’s a plan for it all. I’ll keep my head up + always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken.
“Being surrounded by love every night on tour has been an absolute blessing. I have the best friends in the entire world, thanks for always having my back. See you on stage.”
Sun’s comments come after Lavigne’s representatives told TMZ that their engagement was over.
“They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour, so if anything has changed, that’s news to him,” his representatives responded following the news.
Lavigne and Mod Sun’s relationship history
The couple were first spotted together at steakhouse in Los Angeles. They dated for a little over a year before getting engaged in March 2022.
They were last seen together at the pre-Grammy Gala earlier in February, and took pictures with various other celebrities.
However, TMZ reported that the couple had relationship issues over the last few months, and that they had broken up and gotten back together before things were called off once and for all. The outlet added that there was no cheating on either side.
News of their split came two days after Lavigne was spotted out to dinner with rapper Tyga.
The pair, who were accompanied by a group of friends, were seen leaving Japanese restaurant Nobu Malibu. They hugged before leaving in the same car.
While the duo have reportedly been hanging out together, it’s still unclear if there is anything romantic happening between the two.
Tyga has reportedly been single since 2021, with his last relationship being with Camaryn Swanson, a fashion designer and influencer. He also dated Kylie Jenner from 2014 to 2018.
