‘Modern Family’ star Sofía Vergara surprised by media treatment of Joe Manganiello divorce
The Colombian performer split from the ‘True Blood’ actor in July 2023 after seven and a half years of marriage.
In July year, Modern Family star Sofía Vergara and True Blood actor Joe Manganiello announced they had decided to divorce after seven years of marriage.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the couple said in a joint statement to Page Six.
Why did Vergara and Manganiello split?
That same month, Manganiello officially filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Although he didn’t give further details in his request for separation, TMZ claimed one of the main reasons for the couple’s split was that he wanted to have children, whereas Vergara didn’t.
Although neither had publicly spoken about their separation, the Colombian gave an interview to Entertainment Tonight in September 2023, discussing the changes she had experienced in her life and the “interesting year” that was having. Four months later, Vergara has spoken directly about her divorce and how it was dealt with by the media.
Vergara expected more rumours following Manganiello divorce
Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning, the 51-year-old confessed she knew the couple’s breakup would spark plenty of press talk. “You’re there and people know about it, that’s part of being a celebrity,” she explained during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. “I knew it was going to happen. You can’t hide those things,” she added.
However, she expected coverage of her split with Manganiello to be more negative that it was. “It wasn’t bad. I have to say the press was very respectful and very kind, and I thought they were going to make up more things. I was surprised they just said what it was and that was it,” he added.
Vergara and Managniello met in May 2014, while Vergara was engaged to business and actor Nick Loeb, but waited until she had broken off her engagement to start dating. The Magic Mike star proposed to her on Christmas Eve of that same year and the coupled married in November 2015, splitting a little over seven and a half years later.
