Monica Bellucci to star in ‘Beetlejuice 2’ with Jenna Ortega

Monica Bellucci has just been added to the ‘Beetlejuice 2′ cast, joining Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Michael Keaton. She also joins her partner, Tim Burton, who will be returning to direct the sequel

Bellucci is currently in talks to join the cast, and will reportedly play the wife of Keaton’s character, the titular poltergeist, Beetlejuice.

No plot details for the movie have been released, but Ryder will be reprising her role, Lydia Deetz from the original movie, with Ortega playing her yet unnamed daughter.

Catherine O’Hara, who played Lydia’s stepmother, will also be bringing back her character, Delia Deetz.

Theroux’s role is still unknown.

The sequel also has a release date of September 6, 2024, taking the date from Marvel’s ‘Blade’ which had its preproduction shut down as a result of the ongoing writer’s strike.

What is ‘Beetlejuice’ about?

The original ‘Beetlejuice’ movie was directed by Tim Burton in 1988, quickly becoming a cult favorite.

The movie stars Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as the recently deceased couple, Adam and Barbara Maitland, who find themselves trapped in their home after their death as the Deetz family moves in.

The Deetz’s daughter, Lydia, accidentally awakens the poltergeist Beetlejuice, who is then tasked by the Maitlands to get the Deetz family out of their home once and for all by scaring them away.

‘Beetlejuice 2′ will be Burton’s first theatrical release in five years since he directed Disney’s ‘Dumbo’ in 2019.

The movie will be produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B production studio, with Al Gough and Miles Millar joining as writers.

Gough and Millar also created the hit Netflix series ‘Wednesday’, starring Ortega and executive produced by Burton, marking ‘Beetlejuice 2′ as a reunion for all four.

Bellucci has appeared in a number of hit movies, including Persephone in ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘The Matrix Revolutions’.

She has also starred in Gaspar Noé's ‘Irréversible’ as Alex, Giuseppe Tornatore’s ‘Malèna’ as ‘Malèna’, and Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’ as Mary Magdalene.

She most recently played Bianca in the American action comedy movie ‘Mafia Mamma’, which was released in theaters last month.
