Music expert Santi Carrillo on Rosalía: “I’ve seen thousands of concerts, and calling this one of the best is not an exaggeration”

The editor of Rockdelux praised the opening section of the singer’s concert, although he criticized the shift in pace caused by songs like “Motomami.”

Update:

Rockdelux editor Santi Carrillo surprised many listeners with his verdict on one of Rosalía’s recent concerts. During an appearance on a Radio Primavera Sound program, the music critic stated without hesitation that a large portion of the Spanish artist’s performance ranks among the best live shows he has ever seen.

“I’ve seen thousands of concerts, and calling this one of the best is not an exaggeration,” Carrillo said, making it clear how deeply impressed he was by Rosalía’s performance. He specifically highlighted the first 45 minutes of the concert, which opens with the song “Sexo, Violencia y Llantas,” as an example of artistic excellence that is difficult to match.

What makes his comments especially noteworthy is that the journalist does not have a particularly favorable opinion of Rosalía on a personal level. However, as he explained during the program, that only makes him appreciate her artistry and stage presence even more. Carrillo said he was struck by the precision of the performance and the control of the musical sequencing, elements that, in his view, elevated the show to an exceptional level.

Motomami songs clash with Lux material

Still, the praise was not entirely unconditional. As the concert progressed, the expert felt the pacing suffered because of the inclusion of tracks from the album Motomami. “Motomami just doesn’t fit there... it simply doesn’t fit,” he said. He specifically mentioned songs like “Saoko,” arguing that they disrupted the intensity that had been carefully built up earlier in the performance. Although he acknowledged the quality of those tracks, Carrillo believes they do not blend well within a show structured in that particular way.

On one hand, the critic considers himself an admirer of Rosalía’s stage power during certain moments of the concert. On the other hand, he believes the setlist is not well organized, preventing the show from being truly flawless. Do you agree?
