After 14 seasons on the air, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ is coming to an end following news the show will air its series finale in May. The crime drama, which passed the 300-episode mark in May of 2022, will come to a close after its Season 14 finale and 322nd episode. ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ was the first spinoff series of NCIS and is the second longest running show in the franchise, behind the parent show which is on its 20th season.

In a statement, CBS entertainment president Amy Reisebach said: “For 14 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles has been a stalwart of our lineup with characters who were a joy to watch. It’s no surprise this show succeeded as a global franchise. From day one, the cast, producers, and crew were amazing network/studio partners, and their teamwork, talent, and spirit vividly came through on the screen. We are so grateful for the collaboration and remarkable run of these treasured members of our CBS family, and plan to give them the big sendoff they and their fans deserve.”

Recent decline in viewers

‘NCIS: Los Angeles” premiered in 2009 and has averaged 6.2 million total viewers to date. Among the 13 dramas that CBS has aired, this season ranks number 12 in total, beating only ‘CSI: Vegas’ The series’ recent three-way cross-over event, with ‘NCIS’ and ‘NCIS: Hawaii’ garnered 10 million reviewers, making it the biggest audience since March 17, 2019, for the series.

Actors speak out

Daniela Ruah shared a photo of her character Special Agent Kensi Byle on Instagram, whom she has played since the beginning of the series. The caption reads: “From Season 1 to Season 14, from 24 yrs old to 39, it has been an absolute dream. So many feelings to process and too many words to say. I will save them for a later date… I’m so so grateful to have been a part of this NCISLA family. The show lasted this long because of all of you.”

LL Cool J, who plays Senior Special Agent Sam Hanna, also took to Instagram to give his thoughts on the news. The actor shared several clips and photos of the series along with the caption: “This NCIS Crossover was a huge success!! Thank you to all our millions of fans around the world!! Some of our best ratings in years. After 14 seasons, this is the perfect time to end @ncisla on top of our game!!! I look forward to continuing my fruitful partnership with @cbstv. They invested in our series B round and became a strategic partner with @rockthebells!! More exciting announcements and dates ahead!!!”

Although many fans are saddened by the news of the series’ cancellation, there are still a few episodes to go with the series finale set to air on May 14, 2023.
