On Thursday, Minaj responded by sharing the TikTok to her Instagram Stories, captioning the post with “GAGGGG!!!!!!”.
Gaga is a known Minaj fan, so her using ‘Princess Diana’ in her TikTok is no surprise.
The success of ‘Princess Diana’
‘Princess Diana’ peaked at the number four spot when it debuted at the end of April. The song’s title is a reference to Ice Spice’s nickname as “the princess Diana of her generation”, with fans referring to her as “the people’s princess”, the nickname given to the late Princess Diana.
“I saw all of my supporters being like, ‘She’s the People’s Princess! She’s Princess Diana!’” Ice Spice said in a Billboard interview earlier this month.
“At first, I was confused. I was like, ‘Um, Princess Diana? Out of everybody?’ But [then] I was like, ‘F–k it, she’s iconic’,” Ice Spice said of the nickname.
‘Princess Diana’ was released on Ice Spice’s debut album ‘Like..?’. The album also consists of her other hit viral songs, including ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’, ‘Bikini Bottom’, and ‘In Ha Mood’.
Her song ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’ made her an instant internet music sensation when it was released in August 2022, and has received over 34 million worldwide streams, charting on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.
The song gained popularity after Drake played it on his Sirus XM station ‘Sound 42′, and by September, she signed a record deal with 10K Projects and Capitol Records.
