Hulu’s ‘Only Murders in the Building’ will return for Season 3 this summer, but it looks as though two actors who helped make the show a hit won’t be returning.

Which characters aren’t returning for ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 3?

Amy Ryan and Nathan Lane, who played Jan and Teddy Dimas respectively, won’t be starring alongside Selena Gomez, Steven Martin and Martin Short when the show returns to Hulu.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Lane and Ryan were asked about their status for the upcoming season, with the duo providing an update for fans.

“Only Meryl in the Building,” said Lane. “Well, no, I am not. No. I’ve been doing a play, so I’ve not been able to be a part of it, but my character is probably in jail now, so I don’t know. Maybe in a future season?”

Ryan added: “Only Meryl in the Building. No. I’m still in jail too.”

The duo added that their characters should team up while in prison to get their revenge on the show’s characters. They also suggested that Meryl Streep, who is joining the cast for Season 3, might join them as part of an elaborate scheme for Season 4.

Season 3 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ adds some big names

The third season of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ is currently in production, with Gomez, Martin and Short are all returning.

Streep has also been added to the mix, with the three-time Oscar winner following newcomers Jesse Williams and Paul Rudd.

“Could this honestly get any better?” asked Gomez in a recent Instagram post in which she panned the camera to Rudd.

“I do think it could get a little bit better,” he responds, with the video showing Streep, whose character is a mystery, as well.

Season 2 ended with Rudd appearing as Ben Glenroy, a high-profile star who suddenly dies onstage following an altercation with Shorts’ Oliver Putnam.

With the new season set to pick up after the death, series co-creator John Hoffman told fans that things will feel a bit different.

“It’s going to feel differently because there’s an innate sense around our title, and our characters, and that trio is magic,” said Hoffman.

“How to freshen that up and progress them individually but also to pull them back together, and the ways in which they’ve been out of touch, and the ways in which they have found more conflict, potentially, in the last year that we traverse, there’s a lot of great stuff.
