The nominations for the 96th Academy Awards are in and there’s a familiar name leading the way in terms of nominations. Fresh from winning a whole host of gongs at both the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller Oppenheimer is in contention for 13 prizes at the upcoming Oscars, including in four categories out of the “Big Five” (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay).
Oppenheimer wins Barbie nominations battleComedy Poor Things , starring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo and Western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon are the other two films whose nominations are in double figures, while Greta Gerwig’s Barbie isn’t too far behind on eight.
When will the Oscars 2024 take place? Final voting will begin on 22 February and end five days later, with the ceremony itself, which will be hosted by Jimmy Kemmel for the fourth time, to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood in Los Angeles on 10 March.
With the nominees in each of the 23 categories now known , we have highlighted the ones we think could be taking home gold statuettes in a few weeks’ time.
