Netflix and the NFL are teaming up for the first time for a new docuseries that will give fans a unique look at each season through the lens of NFL quarterbacks.

‘Quarterback’ will follow Patrick Mahomes of the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons as they make their way through the 2022 NFL season.

When will ‘Quarterbacks’ premiere?

The show is slated to premiere in summer 2023 and will follow the three quarterbacks on and off the field, while they are inside the huddle with their teammates, and even when they’re at home with their family and friends.

NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and his Omaha Productions and Mahomes’ newly formed 2PM Productions will produce the series with NFL Films.

“I’m excited for fans to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at an unforgettable season for the entire Chiefs organization and for my family,” said Mahomes.

“From welcoming home a new baby in the middle of the season to welcoming the Lombardi trophy back to Kansas City, our crew was there for it all.

“This new Netflix series will show the time, preparation and balance that it takes to be an NFL quarterback and perform on the biggest stage.”

Although Netflix has ordered just the one season so far, the focus would shift to different players in subsequent seasons should it be renewed.

Netflix continues to add sports documentaries

Although the partnership is the first collaboration between the NFL and Netflix, the streaming service is no stranger to sports documentaries.

The platform has the tennis-focused ‘Break Point’ and PGA Tour docuseries ‘Full Swing’, with upcoming shows about the 2022 men’s World Cup and Six Nations rugby also set to debut in the future.

‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ has proven to be a hit for Netflix, with Season 5 set to debut this Friday.

The series launched in 2018, and last season saw it attract its biggest audience, hitting Netflix top 10 status in 56 different countries. This has helped increase interest in the sport, especially in the United States, which is set to host three races in 2023.

“When we look at viewership of just the docuseries and the new F1 season, which kicked off in mid-March, we see that 41 percent of ‘Drive to Survive’ viewers also tuned in to the first three weeks of the new F1 season,” read a report from Nielsen.
