‘Peaches’ song is potentially eligible for an Oscar

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ song ‘Peaches’ might be a contender at next year’s Academy Awards. The song could be considered under the Oscars’ Best Original Song category.

In the film, ‘Peaches’ is sung by Jack Black in the role of Bowser. Bowser croons his love for Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy), and though it’s unrequited thus far, he hopes to make her fall in love with him.

The piano ballad was written especially for ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, which came out on April 5, 2023. Black co-wrote the song, along with Eric Osmond, John Spiker, and ‘Mario’ directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.

Universal recently released the music video for ‘Peaches’ on the Lyrical Lemonade YouTube account. The video is directed by Cole Bennett and features Black dressed in a Bowser-themed suit playing the piano.

The video premiered on April 7 and is currently number three on trending in the music category. Its popularity amongst the general public makes it clear why the song might be a top contender for the 2024 Oscars season.

Fans are listening to ‘Peaches’ on repeat, showing their love for Bowser’s ballad in the comments.
