‘Perfect Wife’: release date, trailer, how to watch Sherri Papini docuseries

A new Hulu docuseries chronicles the disappearance and reappearance of California woman Sherri Papini, whose bizarre case captured headlines in the United States and beyond.

What happened to Sherri Papini?

In early November 2016, stay-at-home mum Papini prompted a frantic police search when she went missing in Redding, California, where she lived with her husband, Keith. He had arrived home from work to discover that his wife was nowhere to be found, wasn’t answering his calls, and had failed to pick their two children up from daycare. After using the Find My app to locate his wife’s phone, which had been discarded next to a road close to their home, Keith called 911, telling the dispatcher: “I’m totally freaking out, thinking that somebody grabbed her.”

Twenty-two days later, in the early hours of Thanksgiving Day, Sherri was found alive, reappearing at the side of a highway around 150 miles from Redding. She told law enforcement that she had been abducted by two Hispanic women and held in captivity for the preceding three weeks. Sporting severe bruising - and even a mark on her back where she had been branded - Papini said she had suffered repeated physical abuse at the hands of her alleged captors.

But as police continued to investigate the case in the years that followed, Sherri’s story began to unravel.

When does the new Sherri Papini documentary premiere?

Directed by Michael Beach Nichols, Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini is scheduled to be released on the streaming service Hulu on Thursday 20 June 2024. All episodes in the three-part series are due to drop at once.

“This is a real-life psychological thriller with one jaw-dropping revelation after another,” Nichols told an interview with People magazine this month. “People who think they know the story of Sherri Papini’s disappearance are going to realize all reporting up to this point has barely scratched the surface. And those who know nothing of the story are going to have their minds absolutely blown.”
