A source close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has said that the couple is still undecided about attending the coronation of Prince Harry’s father, King Charles III, in May, after it was revealed they were invited with conditions.

With less than three months until the historic event, there are still rumors on how much of a role the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will play in the ceremony, following their split from the royal family, the recent blow-up after the ‘Harry & Meghan’ documentary on Netflix, and Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ was published last month.

Avoiding a toxic confrontation

A source close to Prince Harry reportedly said that “he isn’t going to come if he feels the atmosphere will be as toxic as it was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral.”

The couple made brief appearances at both events and appeared to spend little time with the Royal family.

The source added, “He’s said he wants to reconcile with his family and it’s their call, but so far nothing has changed.”

In a recent interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby, Prince Harry said that the “door is always open” for his family to speak to him, apologize and repair their relationship.

I’m willing to forgive [the royal family] for everything [they’ve] done,” Prince Harry told the Telegraph. “I wish [they’d] actually sat down with me, properly, and instead of saying I’m delusional and paranoid, actually sit down and have a proper conversation about this, because what I’d really like is some accountability. And an apology to my wife.

Royal experts believe that Prince Harry might attend the coronation alone, leaving Meghan with their children to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday, which falls on the same day as the coronation.

Despite the couple’s indecision, the Daily Mail reports that a source close to the Royal family “fully expects” the Sussexes to attend the coronation.

An Invitation with conditions

King Charles III’s coronation is set to be a far more low-key event with 2000 guests, compared to his mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s 8000 guest coronation.

If Prince Harry and Meghan do decide to attend the event, they will not be permitted to pose with the family on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
