Prince Harry and Meghan Markle invited to Coronation with conditions

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are confirmed to attend King Charles III’s coronation, but without Royal duties, and limits on their speech.

What’s behind the “royal rift” between William and Harry

King Charles III’s royal coronation is approaching May 6, and after much speculation, it has been confirmed that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will attend — albeit with stipulations.

Prince Harry and Markle will be allowed to attend, but will not be invited to participate in any formal way. The couple, having officially stepped away from their royal duties in January 2020, have not participated in a royal public appearance since.

At Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on September 8, 2022, Prince Harry and his wife sat in the second row. The prince was also not permitted to wear his military uniform because since leaving the palace, he is now considered a non-working royal. He may neither salute at formal royal ceremonies along with the other participating members.

For the coronation, it is speculated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will sit with Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, as the couple is known to be friendly with the princesses.

Prince Harry and Meghan out of the spotlight

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield said in an interview with CB News that though the 38-year-old prince and his 41-year-old wife are invited, the palace does not want them to become the center of attention, and intends to keep the troublesome duo out of the spotlight as much as possible.

Next on the list of conditions to add to the list, the Sussexes will have limits on their speech. Schofield said that the pair have been advised to speak of nothing but the weather.

“A source close to the Royal Family says that Harry and Meghan should be prepared to talk to senior royals about nothing but the weather, which we can all understand,” Schofield said.

“Those two can’t keep their mouths shut. Loose lips sinks ships,” she continued, while noting the necessity of the invitation in the first place.

“This was going to be a PR nightmare if King Charles did not invite Harry and Meghan to the Coronation.”
