With King Charles’ coronation just over two months away, Prince Harry and Meghan Markel have received their invitations for the event.

Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attend the coronation?

Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited to King Charles’ coronation in May, but whether or not the pair will attend remains unclear.

“I can confirm The Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” a spokesperson for the couple told The Sunday Times.

“An immediate decision on whether The Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time.”

The coronation will take place on May 6, the same day as the fourth birthday of Harry’s son, Archie.

News comes after Sussexes were asked to leave U.K. home

News of the invitation comes just days after Prince Harry and Meghan were asked to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage, which lies on the grounds of the Windsor estate.

“We can confirm The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” a spokesperson for the couple stated.

Reports state the property is being offered to Charles’ brother Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.

The property was given to the couple as a wedding gift by the late Queen. When they left the U.K. for California in 2020, they stated that Frogmore Cottage would remain their home base when visiting.

It’s believed the King will offer the couple the chance to use Prince Andrew’s Buckingham Palace apartment to tempt them into returning to the U.K. for visits in the future.

Reason behind eviction

The Daily Mail reports King Charles made the move to evict Harry and Meghan due to the criticisms the former directed at Queen Consort Camilla in his memoir, ‘Spare’.

Although the decision was said to be a difficult one, the King doesn’t want to add any further strain to the relationship between he and his son.

A source close to Buckingham Palace said that the King made the decision so that he can start fresh after the coronation, and put the problems with the Sussexes and Prince Andrew to rest.

Charles wanted to start after his coronation with the issues of Harry and Meghan and Andrew put to bed,” the source said.

“The situation has dragged on far too long and he wanted to act decisively and quickly.”

However it doesn’t appear everyone is convinced by the move, with a source close to the family stating the eviction was “cruel and final”, and that it may set a worrying precedent for how other members of the royal family may be treated in the future.
