Princess Diana’s designer to make Camilla’s Coronation gown

The Royal Coronation of King Charles III is approaching May 6, and as the family prepares for the big day, his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, has decided to have the king’s former wife’s dress designer make her dress.

Bruce Oldfield is a celebrity dress designer, having dressed the late Princess Diana regularly for many years, as well as Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Kim Kardashian.

Reportedly, the 75-year-old is close with 72-year-old Oldfield and has selected him as the designer for her Coronation gown. The designer has dressed Queen Consort Camilla on previous occasions, so it would not be the first time she has hired Oldfield’s services.

Diana’s designer for Camilla’s dress?

According to a source, Oldfield was the “obvious” choice for the Queen Consort.

[She] has a very close friendship with Bruce spanning many years, so in many ways it is the natural and obvious choice,” they said. “Camilla trusts Bruce because he has really delivered on dresses for so many important occasions recently for her.”

Bruce Oldfield responded to the speculations modestly,

“What can I say?” he said.

Previously, the designer has been slightly more boastful.

“I gave Diana her glamour and Camilla her confidence,” Oldfield has boldly declared.

Who is Brice Oldfield?

Bruce Oldfield, Princess Diana’s favorite dressmaker with whom she had a professional relationship for 10 years, will be designing the Queen Consort’s gown for the Coronation.

With an education at Central Saint Martins kick-starting his career in fashion, Oldfield began designing couture in 1978 and started his own business a few years later.

Princess Diana met the designer through children’s charity, Barnardo’s, as she was the president between 1984 and 1996.

Oldfield has said that the late princess was “relentless” in her fashion demands, as she wanted to be “dressed up like she was going to a wedding every day” — but remembers Princess Diana fondly, commenting on the length of their friendship and what it was like working with her.

“That relationship lasted almost 10 years,” Oldfield said. “‘It was really important for me. She was the perfect client.”
