Rachel Zegler hits back at ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ critics
‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ hasn’t proven to be a hit at the box office, but Rachel Zegler feels some critics have been harsh on the film.
Rachel Zegler isn’t happy with overly mean critics and reviews when it comes to her latest project ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods.’
Zegler defends ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’
The actress, who plays Anthea in the film, took to social media following the film’s release to address “senselessly mean” reviews of the ‘Shazam!’ sequel.
“Hey, our film is actually really good,” Zegler wrote on twitter. “But mostly I just absolutely loved making it and the people I met whilst doing so :) go see it! give it a chance. we have an 85% audience score for a reason.”
Along with some behind the scenes photos from her time on set, she continued her defence in the comment section by saying: “Some people out there are just being… senselessly mean. and it’s unnecessary.
“And I know, I know, ‘if you can’t handle the heat…’ and all that nonsense, and you’re right. but our film is actually very good. It’s just cool to hate on fun nowadays. That’s okay. we’re good.”
Since its release on March 17, the superhero sequel currently has a 52 percent critics score and an 88 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Zegler only took the role so she could have a job
Although the actress has a few upcoming projects up her sleeve, she recently revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she only took on her role in ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ because she “needed a job.”
“The reality is we’re in the middle of a pandemic and I was not working and I couldn’t get a job for the life of me, because West Side Story hadn’t come out yet,” she explained. “It was really hard to book work for me.”
After the success of ‘West Side Story’, Zegler went on to book roles for upcoming projects such as a live action adaptation of ‘Snow White’, where she’ll play the iconic Disney princess. She’ll also be in ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ as Lucy Gray Baird.
Even though she took on the ‘Shazam!’ sequel because she needed a job, she did reveal she was a fan of the original ‘Shazam!’ before she booked her role.
“I loved the first movie, and the fact that they even wanted me to come in for a callback and then a camera read and then everything in between, I’m so lucky that I got this job,” she added. “I made some of my best friends on this job. I just absolutely adore this movie, too, so I’m excited.”
