Jennifer Lopez released ‘Shotgun Wedding,’ in 2023 despite having a near-death experience while on set.

From heartbreaking stories to female empowerment films, Lopez has taken on a wide range of roles over her career. However, the one genre and fan group she keeps coming back to is romantic comedies.

In honor of Lopez’s ‘Shotgun Wedding,’ here is our ranking of the top five best JLo rom-coms of all time.

1. The Wedding Planner

The 2001 hit film follows Mary (Lopez) as she enjoys a romantic night in the city with pediatrician Steve Edison (McConaughey) after he rescues her from a near-fatal collision with a runaway dumpster.

Mary thinks she’s finally found a reason to believe in love, but what she doesn’t know is that her career and blooming love-life are about to collide head-on.

2. Maid in Manhattan

In this 2002 film, Lopez takes on the role of Marisa Ventura, a single mother born and bred in the boroughs of New York City. Her character works as a maid in a first-class Manhattan hotel.

By a twist of fate and mistaken identity, Marisa meets Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes), heir to a political dynasty, who believes that she is a guest at the hotel.

Fate steps in and throws the pair together for a magical night of romance. When Marisa’s true identity is revealed, the two find that they are worlds apart.

3. Monster-in-Law

Continuing with the theme of family, Lopez plays Charlotte in the 2005 film. After quickly falling for Dr. Kevin Fields (Michael Vartan) and having a whirlwind relationship, Charlotte happily accepts Kevin’s fast proposal.

But she soon realizes that Kevin’s mom, Viola (Jane Fonda), is not quite thrilled to have a new family member.

Viola, a newscaster, has just lost her job and is feeling rather attached to Kevin, so she regards Charlotte as her new competition -- and will apparently do anything to make her son call off the wedding.

4. The Back-Up Plan

This 2010 classic follows Zoe, a woman who is tired of waiting for Mr. Right while her biological clock ticks away. In order to take charge of her future, Zoe decides it’s time to make an appointment at the sperm bank.

On the same day as her procedure, she meets Stan (Alex O’Loughlin), a man with the potential to be her ideal mate. When Stan learns that Zoe’s unpredictable behavior is the result of her pregnancy, he declares his commitment.

As the due date approaches, both lovers realize that they really don’t know each other without a baby in the picture.

5. Shotgun Wedding

Lopez’s latest rom-com (which is now available on Amazon Prime Video) follows her character Darcy and Tom (Josh Duhamel) as they gather their families for a destination wedding.

Unfortunately the ceremony gets put on hold when gunmen take everyone hostage. The couple must do everything they can to save their loved ones -- if they don’t wind up killing each other first.
