Ahead of his starring role in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4′, we take a look at the five best Keanu Reeves movies.

Having started his acting career back in 1984, Keanu Reeves has quite a few films on his resume.

Whether it be comedies, dramas or establishing himself as an action hero, the 58-year-old has seemingly done it all on the big screen.

Here’s a look at the five best Keanu Reeves movies.

5. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure

In what proved to be one of his early breakout roles, Reeves starred alongside Alex Winter in this 1989 science-fiction comedy.

The two travel through time to assemble historical figures as they look to pass their history course.

The movie, which also stars comedy legend George Carlin, was a success at the box office, earning $40 million against a $10 million budget. The two actors reprised their roles in two sequels, ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’ and ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’.

4. Speed

Most of this 116-minute movie takes place on a bus. Despite what may sound like an unusual premise, this 1994 movie directed by Jan de Bont became a critical and commercial success.

Reeves’ stars as an LAPD officer who is alerted about a bomb on a bus by a terrorist, who says it will explode if the speed falls below 50 miles per hour.

The film, which also stars Sandra Bullock, made over $350 million at the box office, which made it the fifth-highest-grossing film of 1994. It also won two Academy Awards for Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Sound.

3. My Own Private Idaho

Although Reeves is known for his many action movies, he has shown he has the ability to star in other genres as well.

In the 1991 adventure drama ‘My Own Private Idaho’, Reeves plays a sex worker who is friends with River Phoenix’s ‘Mikey Waters.

The film deals with a variety of issues, including mental illness, poverty and homosexuality as the two embark on a journey from Portland to Idaho, and then Rome.

While Phoenix’s character Mikey confesses his love for Reeves’ Scott, they don’t end up together.

2. Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, this 1992 horror film is one of the best movies that deals with Count Dracula.

Although Reeves’ performance has attracted some criticism over the years, there’s no denying the film’s success.

With a budget of $40 million, the movie earned over $215 million at the box office. It was also nominated for four Academy Awards, winning three for Best Costume Design, Best Sound Editing and Best Makeup.

1. The Matrix

Any list about Reeves’ best movies wouldn’t be complete without this 1999 classic.

It may not be the actor’s best performance, but it is certainly his most iconic role.

The film, which depicts a dystopian future in which humanity is trapped inside the Matrix, was the first entry in what has become one of the most successful franchises of all time.

It’s since spawned several sequels, including ‘The Matrix Reloaded’, ‘The Matrix Revolutions’ and ‘The Matrix Resurrections’.

Reeves starred as the hacker nicknamed Neo. The film popularized the visual effect known as ‘bullet time’, in which the perception of characters is heightened by allowing the action in a shot to progress in slow-motion, along with having a huge influence on pop culture.
