Update:

There isn’t a single day of the year that isn’t dedicated to one group of society or another. On September 23, it’s the turn of gingers across the globe, who are encouraged to flaunt their unique locks even more than usual on Redhead Appreciation Day.

A rare genetic trait

According to statistics, only around 4 percent of the world’s population is naturally redheaded, making it a truly distinctive characteristic.

For a child to be born with red hair, both parents must carry the mutated MC1R redhead gene, and even then, the chances of the trait being passed on are relatively low.
