Richard Gere’s wife gives update after actor hospitalized with pneumonia

The actor was hospitalized while vacationing with his family in Mexico.

Richard Gere was recently hospitalized while celebrating his wife Alejandra Silva’s 40th birthday with his family in Mexico.

TMZ was first to report that the actor caught a case of pneumonia. Gere is said to have a developed a bad cough prior to leaving for Nuevo Vallarta, but it only got worse while there.

As a result the 73-year-old eventually checked himself into a hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

Silva gives update on Gere’s health

After staying in hospital overnight, Gere was later discharged and prescribed antibiotics, with Silva providing an update via Instagram on Sunday.

Silva shared a photo of her and Gere walking with their son on her Instagram account, thanking fans for their support following the news.

“I woke up this morning and I saw the news and all your kind and [worried] messages, he is recovering ❤️‍🩹 he is felling much better today!” Silva wrote.

“The worst has already [passed]!” she continued. “Thank you all for [your] sweet messages we really appreciate them! ♥️♥️ #thankyou.”

Gere and Silva married in 2018

Gere and Silva knew each other for over a decade before they began dating in 2014.

The couple married in 2018 and share a son together, Alexander, 4, as well as another son whom they welcomed in April 2020.

Silva had mentioned that the family were recently ill in a post she shared to Instagram on Thursday.

“Thank you all for the birthday wishes.. after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family, today finally I feel much better!” Silva wrote. “Thank you for all the love ❤️ I give it all back to you! 💫 #happybirthday #happy40.”

In addition to his children with Silva, Gere also shares a son, 23-year-old Homer James, with ex-wife Carey Lowell.

Silva is also a mom to son Albert, 9, from a previous marriage.

Gere recently starred in the romantic comedy ‘Maybe I Do’, which hit theatres on January 27.

Directed by Michael Jacobs in what is his feature directorial debut, the film also stars Luke Bracey, Emma Roberts, Diane Keaton, William H. Macy and Susan Sarandon.
