Rihanna reveals when she wants to release next studio album

Rihanna hasn’t released a new album since 2016, but could the wait come to an end in 2023?

Fresh off her successful Super Bowl halftime show, it looks as though Rihanna is setting some lofty goals for herself in 2023.

The singer put on a spectacular performance at Super Bowl LVII, which broke records after a total of 118.7 million viewers tuned in. She also revealed to the world that she was pregnant with her second baby, showing off her baby bump while dressed in bright red from head-to-toe.

Rihanna and her next studio album

The performance was Rihanna’s first since she took the stage at the 60th Grammy Awards in New York City in 2018, but her last concert tour dates back to 2016.

The tour was for her most recent album, ‘Anti,’ which dropped in 2016, but it looks as though she is eager to release a new album sooner rather than later.

“I want it to be this year,” Rihanna told Vogue when asked if a new album could come this year. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.

“And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video to me talking.”

Rihanna recently played down talk of new music

Rihanna’s comments stand in contrast to what she said prior to the Super Bowl, when she made it clear that a return to the stage didn’t necessarily mean new music was on the way.

“Super Bowl is one thing, new music is another thing, do you hear that, fans?,” she told the Associated Press in the lead up to the Super Bowl.

“The second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh, my God, they’re going to think my album is coming. I need to get to work.”

We now know that the reason she downplayed talk of new music is because she is pregnant with her second child, meaning fans will have to keep a close eye on what happens over the next few months.

In the meantime, Rihanna made it clear that she is enjoying motherhood and all that it has to offer.

‘It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever,’ she told Vogue.

“You literally try to remember it – and there are photos of my life before – but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, because...because it doesn’t matter.”
