Sam Smith and Madonna have both teased an upcoming collab together in a shared Instagram post on Tuesday.

The post is a reel post with the words “Sam and Madonna’ in white text over a black background, with Smith repeating their name, and Madonna whispering hers.

Smith later shared in their Instagram stories that at their upcoming Manchester show today, Wednesday, May 24, the new song will likely be revealed.

“Manchester we’ve got a surprise for you this evening. Unholy won’t be the last song…” Smith told fans.

Fans couldn’t be more excited

The post contains no track name or formal release date. And even with the lack of this information, fans couldn’t contain their excitement for the upcoming collab.

“Why is this audio already a vibe,” one fan wrote.

“This news has literally made my entire year and we’re only in May. I can’t freaking wait,” added another.

The ‘Unholy’ and ‘Like a Prayer’ popstars were previously spotted together at the 2023 Grammy Awards when Madonna introduced both Smith and Kim Petras before performing ‘Unholy’ live.

“Are you ready for a little controversy? Here’s what I’ve learned after four decades in music,” Madonna said before introducing the duo.

“If they call you shocking, scandalous, troublesome, problematic, provocative or dangerous, you are definitely onto something,” she continued. Smith and Petras’ 2022 song ‘Unholy’ was met with controversy both for the lyric contents and live performances, with some groups calling the song “evil”.

Madonna herself has faced the same criticism for her early songs, particularly for her 1989 hit ‘Like a Prayer’.

“I’m here to give thanks to all the rebels out there, forging a new path and taking the heat for all of it. All you troublemakers out there need to know that your fearlessness does not go unnoticed. You are seen, you are heard and, most of all, you are appreciated,” Madonna continued.

“So now, speaking of controversy, it gives me great pleasure to introduce two incredibly talented artists who have risen above the noise, the doubt, the critics into something beautifully unholy. Here are two Grammy Award winners, Sam Smith and Kim Petras.”
