On Thursday, comedian Sarah Silverman announced that her father, Donald Silverman, passed away Wednesday night.

The 52-year-old has since paid tribute to her father by posting a series of photos to her Instagram. Most of the pictures feature Sarah and Donald posing for the camera together.

“My best pal, Schleppy - my dad, died last night,” Silverman wrote. “All the sisters, and grandkids surrounded him with love and singing and very dark fucked up jokes this final week.

“But ultimately, he wanted to be with his love, Janice, who we lost last Monday. He always said he was the richest man in the world because of his family, and he was.”

Donald’s passing comes days after Janice

Donald was married to Silverman’s stepmother, Janice Silverman, for over 40 years. Donald’s death comes days after Janice’s passing, which occurred last Monday.

“Ultimately, he wanted to be with his love, Janice, who we lost last Monday. No shiva- of you wanna do something please donate to @2ndnurture,” Silverman included in her post.

Second Nurture is a non-profit organization that was founded by Susan Silverman, Sarah’s sister, in 2017. The organization aims to “radically increase the number of families who choose to foster and adopt waiting children and teens and do so successfully”.

Silverman and her dad

In her 2010 memoir ‘The Bedwetter’, Silverman attributed her sense of humor to her dad who taught her curse words at a young age.

“It was like he was teaching a ‘cursing as a second language’ course for one,” Silverman wrote.

In 2013, Donald recalled the event to The Guardian.

“She was just so cute as a baby, so I taught her the worst words,” he said.

“One day when Sarah was about four, my mother came over with some brownies and Sarah shouted at her, ‘Shove ‘em up your a**, Nana!’ It was terrific.”
