Season five of ‘Stranger Things’ in the works

Filming for the final season of Netflix’s hit series ‘Stranger Things’ now has a set start date

Stranger Things’ actor David Harbour has revealed that filming for the fifth and final season will begin this June. Harbour who plays Detective Jim Hopper in the Netflix series, announced during the Middle East Film and Comic Con this past weekend in Abu Dhabi.

The actor revealed his feelings towards the series’ inevitable ending, saying that it’s bittersweet, but he feels it’s “time for it to end.” He also talks about his training ahead of the start of shooting and what’s in store for his character.

“We’re walking into season five. I’ve got a couple more months to train. We start shooting that in June, though, and that will be the final season. I did a lot of training for season four. He [Hopper] was in a very specific position, that Russian prison,” Harbour explains.

He continued, “It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But now he’s back in town, he’s back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed.”

What’s next for Detective Hopper?

The actor gave little details about the upcoming season plot, noting that his character spent the majority of the fourth season in a Russian prison. However, in the final moments of season 4, fans saw Hopper reunite with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and his adopted daughter, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), and it’s likely those events will carry into the next season.

As of now, the release date for the fifth and final season has yet to be announced. It’s speculated that the season 5 premiere will take place sometime in 2024.

Seven years since its premiere

‘Stranger Things’ premiered on Netflix in July 2016. The series is described as following “the residents of a small fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana as they are plagued by a hostile alternative dimension known as the upside down.”

The Upside Down was created after a human experimentation facility nearby opened a gateway between the two worlds.

The series is created by the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross Duffer. The two also directed the 2015 psychological thriller film ‘Hidden.’
