Seth Rogen, actor, on his decision not become a parent: “Honestly, thank God we don’t have children”

Having a child is a big life decision that isn’t for everyone. Actor and comedian Seth Rogen and his wife Lauren Miller are two of those people.

Update:

Becoming a parent can be a wellspring of joy, but it is a major life decision that isn’t for everyone. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau a growing number of people are choosing to forego parenthood and remain childless like actor and comedian Seth Rogen and his wife Lauren Miller.

Childless with no regrets about it

It’s a decision that both of them took together and over their 15 years of marriage, one that they don’t regret. They often ask themselves if they’ve made the right choice and have found that as they’ve gotten older they are all “the happier and reaffirmed” with not having had kids.

“Now, more than anything, the conversation is like, ‘Honestly, thank god we don’t have children,” Rogen told the host of the Diary of a CEO podcast, Steven Bartlett, in 2023. “We get to do whatever we want,” he added.

Rogen feels that people are just told that having children is what is expected, “you go through life, you get married, you have kids — it’s what happens,” he told Bartlett. In many cases from what he’s seen, “people have kids before they even think about it.”

Rogan has received praise for his openness about the choice, but also some harsh criticism. He shrugs that off though telling Esquire magazine last year: “Well, if you hate me that much, why do you want more of me?”

The actor shared that the idea of having a child is something that no one should take lightly. “I look at my friends with kids and honestly I feel like some of them are incredibly happy and fulfilled, and some of them seem like maybe they wish they had put a little more thought into it. I just didn’t want to be one of those people,” he told the magazine.

One of the things he found especially unsettling from those that chastised him for deciding to be childless were a lot of people asking “Who’s going to take care of you when you’re old?” Rogen said that comment was very telling.

Is that why you’re having kids? Because I have two things to say: One, that’s very selfish to create a human so someone can take care of you. And two, just because you have a kid, I hate to break it to you, that doesn’t mean they’re going to do that,” he observed.
