Just like everyone else, singer and actress Shakira can’t get enough of ‘Barbie’. Greta Gerwig’s much-anticipated film, expected for release on July 21, 2023, has fans and celebrities alike excited.

Many fans are posting photos of themselves as Barbie in the style of the film’s promotional posters. Shakira recently shared some photos of herself in the Barbie poster format on her Instagram Stories.

Shakira posted multiple poster edits of herself, referencing some of her most popular songs like ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ and ‘Music Session #53′.

Shakira throws shade to ex Gerard Piqué in ‘Barbie’ post

One of Shakira’s ‘Barbie’ posters throws major shade at her ex-husband, Gerard Piqué. In the poster, the singer is wearing the blue outfit from her ‘TQG’ music video.

“This Barbie is orgullosa de ser Latinoamericana,” reads her caption. It translates to “This Barbie is proud to be Latin American.”

The comment is thought to be in response to ex Piqué's statement after the couple broke up due to Piqué's infidelity. On a podcast, he spoke about the hate he was receiving post-breakup, specifically referring to Shakira’s Latin American fanbase.

“My ex-partner is Latin American and you have no idea what I’ve received over social media from people that are fans of her,” he stated on the podcast.

“I don’t know them, it’s people who I guess don’t have lives. Why should you care about them? Zero. You’ll never meet them in your life, they’re like robots.”

Shakira fans not happy about Gerard Piqué's post-break-up comments

Unsurprisingly, Piqué's comments caused a stir amongst Shakira’s Latin American fanbase.

Many were upset that the former professional football player made unfounded generalizations about Shakira’s fans, and that their Latin American nationality had nothing to do with his reception online.

In the aftermath of Pique’s comments, Shakira took to social media to defend her fans and her own Latin American roots.
