Shania Twain recalls being ‘uncontrollably fragile’ due to past relationship scandal
The country singer opens up about past relationships with ex-husbands and former best friend
The country music star confirmed that ex-husband Robert “Mutt” Lange and former best friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud are still together today, about 15 years after the couple’s affair broke up her marriage.
In an ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast episode with co-hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman on Monday, the duo anxiously asked the country singer about the infamous past relationship scandal that pivoted her career.
No longer embarrassed
Twain, who just recently released a new album titled ‘Queen of Me,’ assured the hosts she is not “embarrassed” by the 2008 scandal. She also noted that she and Lange, who were married for 14 years until their split, only now keeps in touch in reference to their 21-year-old son, Eja.
“Mutt and I parent well together — for people who don’t talk to each other,” the Grammy winner explained her co-parenting style. “We’ll just text.
“We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that,” she continued. “We have the same priority; we share spaces for him. No nonsense there.”
Marriage to Frédéric Thiébaud
After the country singer’s scandalous divorce, she went on to marry Marie-Anne Thiébaud’s ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, in 2011. She also claimed in the podcast that she “didn’t know Fréd very well,” before his ex-wife cheated with her then-husband.
The ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman!’ singer goes on to describe how their relationship came to be, describing it as a “beautiful surprise,” to see “how gracefully and graciously he was dealing with navigating the same pain.”
While Twain felt “uncontrollably fragile” over the duplicity of situations, the businessman seemed “thoughtful.”
She goes on, “Fréd’s so smart. This is one of the smartest people I know, [and] he didn’t know [about the affair] either. That helped me feel better.”
Later adding that “everyone gets what they deserve,” Twain gushed, “I got what I deserve. I got the greatest man on the planet.”
Twain typically remains very private about her past relationships, only giving a rare insight recently and in her July 2022 documentary, “Not Just a Girl.” In the Netflix documentary, Twain described the breakup as “similarly intense” to the pain of losing her parents.
