A series of COVID-related delays have held back this sequel’s timely release. The DC sequel is expected to make between $80-85M in its worldwide debut, even making it to screens in China on the same day as its US launch.

The movie centers around Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a foster kid who can transform into a superhero, played by Zachary Levi, after uttering the word “Shazam”. This family-friendly film is applauded for being fun and lighthearted, bringing us through the journey of Billy and his superhero foster siblings as they fight crime together.

Check out the Trailer

The first trailer was released back on July 23, 2022, to the public however to keep the momentum and excitement, a second trailer was released on January 26, 2023. Both trailers give us a glimpse into the new potential dangers the heroes will face in their attempt to save the world from the powers that be.

The Shazam! Fury of the Gods Cast

Many of the characters we know from the first movie have returned to make up the “Shazamily” in addition to Zachary Levi (Chuck) and Asher Angel (Andi Mack)’. Billy’s foster siblings are played by Jack Dylan Grazer (It), Faithe Herman (This Is Us), Ian Chen (Fresh Off the Boat), Jovan Armand (Snowfall), and Grace Caroline Currey (Annabelle: Creation), while the superhero versions of these first four characters are played by Adam Brody (The O.C.), Meagan Good (Brick), Ross Butler (Raya and the Last Dragon), and D. J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe: Retaliation).

Three of the new characters that join in for this special sequel are Helen Mirren, playing Hespera and Lucy Liu playing Kalypso, and Rachel Zegler playing Anthea, three of the daughters of Atlas.

These characters have not been adapted from DC comics, but rather inspired by Greek Mythology figures. All three of them play the villains in the new movie, creating havoc in the world to take back what they believe are their powers that make Shazam a superhero.
