The Academy Award-winning ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ will be followed by its highly anticipated ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ sequel which is slated to hit theaters later this year.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, two of the film’s stars, Oscar Isaac (Spider-Man 2099/Miguel O’Hara) and Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Gwen/Gwen Stacy) discussed the film and some of its last-minute changes.

Changing it up

Regarding last-minute dialogue changes, Isaac said: “It helps that a lot of these characters are masked, so you can keep changing lines right up to the last second. For something as seemingly rigid as animation, the amount of experimentation we got to do on this movie was really fun.

“Their [writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s] way of working is a beautiful combination of finding pathos and humor, but also making fun of it and being willing to try again.”

While these last-minute changes might be concerning to some fans, Steinfeld expressed that these changes are truly improving the quality of the film.

“You have the best time,” she said. “Watching Lord and Miller do their thing is a show in itself.

“It’s amazing to see them coming up with stuff in the moment, making it funnier, more emotional, more grounded. You’ll walk into a recording session, like ‘This [movie] is coming out in a couple of weeks, guys. What are we doing here?!’

“But every time you walk out, you feel an improvement has been made. They’re such perfectionists: I really admire that.”

‘Across the Spider-Verse’

‘Spider-Verse 2′ will follow Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Steinfeld) as they journey through the multiverse to save other Spider-People from a new catastrophic threat.

Alongside Moore and Steinfeld, Jake Johnson will also be reprising his role as Peter B. Parker with new additions such as Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman and more.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ releases in theaters June 2, 2023. A third installment, titled ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ is scheduled for March 29, 2024.
