HBO have announced that the fourth season of ‘Succession’ will premiere on March 26, with the network also releasing a teaser trailer on Thursday.

That means fans of the Emmy-winning corporate drama won’t have to wait very long for new episodes, which saw Season 3 wrap up in December 2021.

“In the 10-episode Season 4, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer,” reads the official synopsis. “The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

New cast additions for Season 4 include Annabeth Gish, Adam Godley, Eili Harboe, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson.

How Season 3 of Succession ended

The most recent season ended with Roy siblings Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) joining together to stop their father Logan (Brian Cox) from selling Waystar to Lukas Matsson (Aleksander Skarsgard) and GoJo.

However it was Logan who got the last laugh after securing a huge payout and cutting his kids out entirely after getting their mother to sign off on the deal.

The trailer teases those divisions deepening, with Logan’s camp refusing to speak to Kendall, Shiv and Roman and the siblings planning some sort of revenge.

“It’s a tightrope walk on a straight razor. A 500-foot reputational drop,” Kendall says while bringing Connor (Alan Ruck) into matters.

What wasn’t mentioned was whether this upcoming season would be the show’s last. Creator Jesse Armstrong previously told Variety that the end of Season 3 had changed the direction of the show.

“It changes it,” he said. “I’d be bullshitting you if I told you I knew exactly what was going to happen. We’ll follow the truth, and the business of that. I think succession in one form or another is very much still on the table.”

Success at the Emmys

‘Succession’ won numerous honors at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, taking home awards for Best Drama Series, Best Writing and Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for Matthew Macfadyen, who plays Tom Wambsgans, Shiv’s fiance and then husband.

In total the show has earned 48 Emmy nominations over three seasons, winning 13 awards.
