Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen teases ending of the series

Succession’s fourth and final season has finally begun. While the ending is unfortunate news for many longtime series fans, Actor Matthew Macfadyen explains why fans should look forward to the series’ completion.

According to Macfadyen, the season has a “good ending.” The actor, who plays Tom Wambsgans on the show, previously won last year’s Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

A good ending

Macfadyen spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the HBO series’ final conclusion.

“It was sort of awful,” he said of saying goodbye to his regular collaborators. “But I will say that I think it’s a good ending. I think it works.”

Rather than divulging fans spoilers of the upcoming finale, Macfadyen revealed his personal feelings about the conclusion. The actor praised the season four scenes for being well executed on detailed and well throughout sets.

“I love that they’re quite bloody-minded and gladiatorial in that we shoot a 10 or 12-page scene in one continuous take, and then do that eight or nine times over.”

Upcoming projects

Macfadyen won’t have to worry about taking too much time off between projects, as it was recently announced that the actor reportedly has a major role in the upcoming ‘Deadpool 3′ movie.

The actor is also cast in the upcoming thriller ‘Holland, Michigan,’ where he will star alongside Nicole Kidman and Rachel Sennott. The synopsis entails a woman who suspects her husband is cheating and enters an affair of her own before realizing her husband’s secret is much darker.

How other cast members feel

Macfadyen isn’t the only ‘Succession’ cast member to open up about the series finale. Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy in the series also admitted he’s “happy’ to see the story come to a close this year.

“I think we’ve, you know, got to the point where the show has reached its natural closure,” shared the actor just recently to Entertainment Tonight. He also opens up about his trust in showrunner Jesse Armstrong’s creative ability.

“Jesse won’t let anything go on further than it needs to. A lot of shows outstay their welcome, and I think our show is perfect, and neat, in the way it is.

“In a good way, I’m happy it’s over,” Cox added. “I’ll miss the people I work with. They’re the key.”
