Due for release next week, a new true-crime docuseries delves into a notorious double child homicide that remains unsolved over a decade on.

“A monster came into our town”

In July 2012, cousins Elizabeth Collins, eight, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, ten, disappeared while out on a bike ride in Evansdale, a small town in the US state of Iowa. Five months later, the girls’ murdered bodies were found by hunters in the Seven Bridges Wildlife Area, some 25 miles away from Evandale.

Directed by Dylan Sires, Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? is a three-part series that features “over seven years of exclusive access and insider interviews”, according to a press release by Warner Bros Discovery. The documentary also promises to reveal “new information around the case”.

In the trailer for Taken Together, one interviewee says: “A monster came into our town and plucked two little girls.” Another agrees: “This is a fucking monster who did this.”

When does Taken Together premiere?

Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? is scheduled to be released on HBO’s streaming platform, Max, on Thursday, August 8.
