Almería in southern Spain has been a backdrop for some of the most iconic productions ever filmed — Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, For a Few Dollars More, Lawrence of Arabia. Its cinematic pedigree is so rich that many fans are still surprised Quentin Tarantino has never set foot there, at least not publicly. His last known comment about the region dates back to 2019, when he said he wanted to “visit Almería, no matter what.”
Tarantino’s fascination with the Tabernas Desert
As a devoted Sergio Leone fan, Tarantino has long been drawn to the Tabernas Desert, one of Europe’s most storied filming locations and the spiritual home of the spaghetti western.
He once said he wanted to see whether “those places still exist,” and even admitted he’d love to shoot a film there, calling it the perfect setting for his own spaghetti‑western homage. Since then, he hasn’t publicly revisited the idea — leaving fans wondering whether his long‑promised visit ever happened.
One film left — could it be in Spain?
Tarantino has repeatedly insisted he will direct no more than ten films. With nine already released, his next project is expected to be his last.
