Taron Egerton drops big update on next James Bond
With Daniel Craig’s time as 007 over, James Bond fans are eager to know who will take over as the famed secret agent.
After Daniel Craig said goodbye to James Bond after the 2021 film ‘No Time to Die’, there has been no shortage of speculation and rumors regarding who will take over the role.
Will Taron Egerton take over as the next James Bond?
Taron Egerton is one of the many names linked with the role. The actor is no stranger to spy movies, having starred in the 2014 hit ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ and its 2017 sequel ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’.
While speaking with Total Film about his upcoming film, ‘Tetris’, Egerton said that he would be happy to be the next James Bond, but that he believes the role has already been filled.
“Yeah. I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me,” said Egerton.
When asked further questions about the topic, Egerton said that he had never met with Barbara Broccoli and her brother Michael G. Wilson, who control the James Bond franchise.
“I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never enquired about me,” Egerton added.
“I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that.
“I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”
Craig and his departure from the franchise
‘No Time to Die’ was Craig’s fifth and final portrayal of James Bond. His first role in the series began in 2006 with ‘Casino Royale’, which earned him a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
When talking about his departure from the series, Craig revealed he and Barbara Broccoli had already set a timeline for his departure from the 007 franchise shortly after the premiere of the 2006 hit.
“I was driving away from the Berlin premiere of ‘Casino Royale’ with Barbara Broccoli,” Craig told the The Times in December 2022. “I had genuinely thought I would do one Bond movie, then it would be over. But by then we knew we had a hit on our hands.”
“I realized the enormity of it, so I said to Barbara, ‘How many more? Three? Four?’ She said, ‘Four!’
“I said, ‘OK. Then can I kill him off?’ She said, ‘Yes.’“
He also added that his decision to leave the franchise was a simple one, stating: “I said, ‘This is it. I don’t want to do any more’.”
As for who will take over as the next James Bond, names like Henry Cavill, James Norton, Tom Hardy, Aidan Turner and Chiwetel Ejiofor have all been linked with the role.
