Taron Egerton says he’s ‘too old’ for Marvel movies

The ‘Kingsman’ actor address fan theories about potential Marvel movie role

Update:
Taron Egerton says he’s ‘too old’ for Marvel movies

While Marvel fans have fan-casted Taron Egerton for a number of potential MCU roles, including Wolverine, the actor says Marvel is no longer on his mind.

Egerton has been on Marvel fans’ radar for quite some time. His roles in ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service,’ ‘Sing’, and ‘Rocketman’ make him an ideal candidate for an antihero movie. Egerton even confirmed that he had a meeting with Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige in July of last year.

Even earlier in February 2022, Egerton himself admitted that the idea of playing Wolverine would be “really exciting” but there are no official plans to put the idea into motion. Unfortunately, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up that the actor will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the March 2023 issue of Total Film Magazine, Egerton explained why he’s not as hopeful as he once was about joining the MCU. He was asked which Marvel character he mentioned to Feige during their meeting last year and whether it’s still possible.

The ship has “probably” sailed

Egerton admitted that he’s “too old for it now” and “that ship has probably sailed.” He also mentioned Wolverine in his full answer.

“Well, the one that I mentioned is up for grabs, but I’m too old for it now. I think that ship has probably sailed. Yeah, that whole Wolverine thing – I get asked about it and no matter what you say, it gets turned into what people want you to say about it,” the British Actor explains.

Egerton continues, “I’m not going to be the guy to play Wolverine. There’s no signs pointing towards that being the thing. And I just don’t know if I’m maybe… I don’t know. Maybe I’m getting to the point where that’s not what I want anymore. I don’t know.”

The ‘Rocketman’ actor goes on to explain that he’s enjoyed Marvel movies over the years but he’s unsure if “they’re the right thing” for him right now.

“I’d never say never, and I do love those movies. I’ve really enjoyed watching them over the past 10, 15 years. But whether I… You know, it may not be that they’re the right thing for me any more. I think maybe I’m past the point where that felt like the right thing [for my career,]” Egerton explains.

Confirmed projects

The actor went on to talk about his next upcoming project ‘Firebug’ which is another Apple Studios project for the actor. Egerton also reveals he’s “really enjoyed doing” ‘Black Bird,’ a drama mystery mini-series also produced by Apple Studios.

Egerton has also been making headlines lately for his rumored involvement in the next James Bond movie. However, the actor debunked the fan theory in a recent interview.
