Taylor Swift and Matty Healy break up: How long were they together?
Though not confirmed, it has been reported that the relationship between the two musicians is over as soon as it began. Or is there more to discover?
The rumoured romance between Taylor Swift and The 1975′s Matty Healy seems to be over. It has been reported in multiple publications that the relationship is over after their first public outings at the beginning of May this year.
What the nature of the pair’s relationship was or still is is up for debate. Regardless, the story goes much deeper than just the last month with at least a professional relationship existing between them for the last 18 months.
The timeline of the relationship, we think
While not the beginning of their romantic relationship, the pair met in November 2014 at one of The 1975′s concerts in Los Angeles. It is later it is revealed by Healy himself that the two exchanged phone numbers after the gig. Days later, Swift was photographed donning a The 1975 band-tee, adding fuel to the flames of rumours of this new-found romance.
To the disappointment of countless tabloid reading teens at the time, Healy quashed the rumours during an interview on Australia’s Shazam Top 20, putting the dating questions to rest.
Though he confirmed that him and Taylor were not together, Healy went out of his way to show his admiration towards the Midnights singer saying, “I mean, bloody hell, what am I going to do, go out with Taylor Swift? She’s a sensation,” he said. “I wouldn’t say no.”
He then went on to say, “We met each other. We exchanged numbers in the same way a lot of people in this kind of world do. And we spoke occasionally, and then she’s the biggest pop star in the world. I’m in Australia. There’s no, like, relationship or anything happening. It’s just funny how people really, really buy into that.”
“So that didn’t really happen,” Healy adds. “As much as it’d be amazing for me if it did, unfortunately it didn’t.”
Five years passed before the next link up. They were in seperate relationships, most notable at this point being Miss Americana’s very private and serious relationship with British actor, Joe Alwyn.
That didn’t stop The 1975 frontman from expressing interest in working with Swift on future projects and singing her praise. “I would never slag Taylor off, I think Taylor’s amazing,” he explained on the Green Room podcast.
Musical collaboration
2022 was the year things really began to spice up. In November, almost eight years after the rumours began, Healy opened up about his working relationship and friendship with Swift and revealed that the two had actually been working closely together for a while.
He told the audience Kroq’s DTS Sound Space and having had written several songs for Swift’s most recent album, Midnights, together with his band - however none had made the final cut.
Clearly there was no bad blood as Healy reassured the listeners that “It [didn’t work out] for reasons that are not to be criticised” going on to once again openly sing Miss Swift’s praises saying, “She’s amazing.”
He even revealed that she got an exclusive preview to the 1975′s most recent album, “Being Funny in a Foreign language”.
While supposedly in town to see her now-ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn in London, Swift shocked fans all across the globe by making a surprise cameo at The 1975′s concert and debuting her newest hit “Anti-Hero” on-stage.
In January 2023, news emerged of Swifts separation from long time beau, Joe Alwyn.
A relationship formed
On 5 May, Healy flew 17 hours to Nashville after a concert in the Philippines in order to attend Swift’s Eras Tour show. He attended all three of the concerts in Swift’s home city. even going as far as joining mutual friend and singer Phoebe Bridgers on stage opening one of the tour nights.
The two were also caught mouthing the same words to the camera just two days apart at their respective shows: “This one is about you. You know who you are. I love you.”
Though it’s unclear whether it was just a coincidence, or the artists trying to send a message.
After one of the shows, the two are photographed heading back to Swift’s Nashville home. After this moment, the rumours began to be confirmed through more and more sightings of the pair going on intimate dates and being seen “cuddling and kissing”.
Though word has come out that the pair have called it quits after just one month of couple’s public sightings, the relationship itself - let alone it’s ending - is yet to truly be confirmed.
