Taylor Swift fans are a passionate and dedicated bunch, but the singer couldn’t help but take a light-hearted dig at them during the opening night of her ‘Eras Tour’.

The singer kicked off her highly anticipated tour with back-to-back performances at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Friday and Saturday night.

On Friday, Swift dazzled those in attendance by performing for over three hours. Taking them through a journey of all her work so far, the singer performed a total of 44 songs.

Swift puts ‘Evermore’ rumors to bed

Between songs, Swift spoke to the audience. That’s when she responded to fan rumors that circulated on TikTok which suggested she didn’t like her 2020 album ‘Evermore’.

Fans have long joked that she doesn’t like the album, especially after she didn’t acknowledge its one-year anniversary back in 2021.

Swift hit back while introducing her song ‘Champagne Problems’, which is the second song on the album.

“I love to keep up with you guys online,” Taylor said during the ‘Evermore’ segment of the concert. “You guys are really funny. You have a really good sense of humor.

“Sometimes you like to tease me about things. And the really hilarious thing that you were on for a while was saying, ‘Taylor hates Evermore.’

“What is your evidence? I would like to see your evidence. You guys were like, ‘She did not wish Evermore a happy birthday.’ I don’t even wish people a happy birthday on social media.

“But I’m here to dispel the rumors and prove wrong the allegations that I hate Evermore because I actually love that album and am so proud of it.

“I’m so happy you love it. So, I’d be delighted and honored if you would join me in singing ‘Champagne Problems.’”

Evermore’s release

‘Evermore’ was released during the pandemic, just five months after Swift’s previous album, ‘Folklore’.

It came after Swift collaborated with Aaron Dessner, and was recorded at his Long Pond Studio in the Hudson Valley. Bon Iver, Haim and The National are guest performers on the album.

The album earned widespread critical acclaim, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 64th Annual Grammy awards.

It reached number one in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Greece, New Zealand, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with ‘Willow’, ‘No Body, No Crime’ and ‘Coney Island’ all released as singles.
