Taylor Swift’s ‘Cornelia Street’ Townhouse up for rent
The infamous Manhattan townhouse Taylor Swift previously rented is hitting the market again.
Taylor Swift’s former townhouse, the one that inspired an entire song, is up for rent again. However, the Cornelia Street property comes with a hefty price tag.
Laurence Carty, the real estate broker, revealed to TMZ that the townhouse is hitting the market and is priced at $49,500 a month for a 12-month lease. According to Carty, the owner would consider a sale price upon request.
Swift lived in the townhouse from 2016 until sometime in 2017 while one of her three Tribeca apartments was undergoing renovations. Her time in the townhouse was so significant she wrote the song ‘Cornelia Street’ for her 2019 album ‘Lover’, which detailed her time there.
Property details
23 Cornelia Street is described as a four bedroom, seven-bathroom, approximately 5500 square-footage townhouse in West Village, Manhattan. The property features three gas fireplaces, hardwood throughout, and an indoor pool.
“Yes, this is the house that the song built. Famous as one-time home of superstar Taylor Swift, built in 1870 as a carriage house and transformed into a spectacular home with a modernist flair with a celebrity tested, drive-right-in garage and pool, nestled in the heart of the West Village,” the official listing reads.
Swift’s Ode to Cornelia Street
In the 2019 track, Swift makes numerous mentions of the rental property. Lyrics of the song include, “I rent a place on Cornelia Street, I say casually in the car.”
Swifties believe that the song also references Swift’s then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. The two began dating in October 2016, while she was renting the property.
The lyrics in the song that fans believe reference her ex-boyfriend are, “And I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends // I’d never walk Cornelia Street again // That’s the kind of heartbreak time could never mend.”
Since her time on Cornelia Street, it’s reported that Swift now spends her time in New York City at her Tribeca Penthouse, which she purchased for $18 million in 2017. Franklin Street penthouse is where disgraced French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn stayed while he was under house arrest in 2011 for an alleged sexual assault.
Swift also owns a penthouse duplex a couple of doors down which she bought for $19.95 million in 2014. In total, the singer has reportedly spent a total of $47.7 million over the years on properties in the Tribeca area.
