The Best Met Gala Red Carpet looks from 2023
This year’s Met Gala theme is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’.
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It is also known as the Met Ball or the Costume Institute Gala.
The event is typically held on the first Monday in May and is known for its red-carpet fashion, which often features elaborate and avant-garde designs inspired by the year’s theme. The event attracts a wide range of celebrities, fashion icons, and industry leaders from around the world.
Who is Karl Lagerfeld?
This year’s theme is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. Lagerfeld was a renowned fashion designer who was known for his contributions to the fashion industry and his signature personal style, which included his trademark white ponytail, sunglasses, and fingerless gloves.
Born in Germany in 1933, Lagerfeld began his fashion career in the 1950s and quickly rose to fame, eventually becoming one of the most celebrated designers of his time. He worked for several major fashion houses, including Chanel, Fendi, and Karl Lagerfeld, his eponymous fashion label.
Throughout his career, Lagerfeld was known for his innovative designs, his attention to detail, and his ability to create fashion trends that transcended generations. He was also a prolific photographer and artist, and his work has been exhibited in galleries around the world.
This year, Met Gala guests are tasked with honoring Lagerfeld with their wardrobe choices. Let’s take a look at some of the best looks from the night.
Dua Lipa’s Chanel Haute Couture
The singer and this year’s co-host of the Met Gala arrived early in an elegant white tweet ball gown by Chanel with a basque waist and woven black trim and fringe hem. The piece was originally worn by Claudia Schiffer, who was photographed alongside Karl Lagerfeld in the outfit.
She also accessorized in diamonds from Tiffany & Co. She is the first person ever to wear the legendary Lucida Star Necklace which is reportedly worth over $10 million dollars because of one of the yellow diamonds which is one of the largest in the world.
Chloe Fineman’s cat purse
The comedian and actress Chloe Fineman kept it fun with her bubbly pink Wiederhoeft gown. The dress features a necklace full of black and grey roses accompanied by sheer black sleeves.
Fineman also chose to accessorize with a bedazzled pink cat purse an ode to Lagerfeld’s obsession with his cat named Choupette. Choupette was known for her luxurious lifestyle and diva-like personality, and she often accompanied Lagerfeld on his travels and photo shoots.
She even had her own social media accounts and was the subject of a book, “Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat.” When Lagerfeld passed in 2019, there was a portion of his will set aside for Choupette to ensure she continued to live a pampered life.
Doja Cat the Cat
The homage to Choupette continues. Doja Cat makes her Met Gala debut in a cat ensemble created by Brett Alan Nelson and Fernando Garcia.
The catsuit features a skin-tight white and silver bedazzled gown with a feathery train. The gown stretches up onto a fitting hood that features cat ears.
To complete the look, Doja wore a soft and subtle cat eye eyeliner look and a faux nose and upper lip prosthetic to create a cat-like appearance.
