The best series about World War II is on HBO and it’s a classic that no one should miss

“Alongside The Pacific, it’s one of the series produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.”

Update:

HBO has been bragging about its prestige‑TV pedigree for decades—and with good reason. Long before Game of Thrones became a global phenomenon, the network was already redefining television with landmark series like The Wire, The Sopranos, and Six Feet Under. And if Rome is still considered the gold standard for dramas set in ancient history, then Band of Brothers remains, without question, the definitive World War II series.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, this 10‑episode miniseries is one of the crown jewels of Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming lineup.

A story built on real soldiers and real testimony

Every character in Band of Brothers is based on a real person. The directors and writers crafted the narrative using firsthand accounts from the men who actually lived through the war. Much of the series draws from the research of historian Stephen E. Ambrose, whose work inspired the project.

To ensure accuracy, members of Easy Company reviewed the scripts themselves—an extraordinary step that helped preserve the authenticity of the events portrayed.

World War II in all its brutal reality

The series follows the soldiers of Easy Company, part of the U.S. Army’s 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. They were deployed to the European theater during World War II, fighting in the D‑Day invasion and several of the conflict’s most pivotal battles.

Deeply human and emotionally devastating, Band of Brothers doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of war—violence, fear, loss, and the fragile moments of heroism that emerge in the chaos. With exceptional performances and top‑tier special effects, the series leaves viewers breathless and often fighting back tears.

And if you want more: The Pacific

While it doesn’t quite reach the same legendary status as Band of Brothers, The Pacific—created by the same team—is absolutely worth watching. Also streaming on HBO, it’s based on the memoirs of U.S. Marines Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie, who fought in the brutal Pacific theater against Japanese forces during World War II.
