‘The Chosen’ to be streamed in over 300 prisons

‘The Chosen’ will be streamed in over 300 prisons across the United States, reaching over 10, 000 inmates.

The creator of ‘The Chosen’, Dallas Jenkins, has entered into a partnership with Prison Fellowship, a Christian nonprofit organization, to arrange the show based on the life of Jesus to be accessible to inmates.

Making a strong partnership

“We are more than thrilled to make this high-quality, Gospel-focused production available to those in prison,” James Ackerman, president and CEO of Prison Fellowship, said in a press release. “Our prayer is that it will impact more lives as it already has the more than 110 million people around the globe who have viewed the series.”

The program will be made available to inmates through a streaming platform called Floodlight, which is a closed-circuit platform developed by the Prison Fellowship in March 2020 to provide inmates with access to entertainment.

‘The Chosen’ is produced through Angel Studios and is a biography of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, with prominent figures from the gospels including Peter, Mary Magdalene, and Mary, mother of Jesus, and depicts the cultural happenings and opposition Jesus and his followers faced at the time.

Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus on ‘The Chosen’, commented on the significance of playing the role of Jesus.

“I love Jesus and it is the honor of my life to get to portray him,” Roumie said. “As long as God keeps bringing me stories that I can honor him with, to me, it doesn’t matter what genre they may or may not fall into. It just happens to be that at this stage, there is a lot for me to mine and relate to that are in sort of the faith-minded genre.”
