On Thursday, English rock band The Cure announced via social media that they’ll be heading on a North American tour in 2023. The announcement marks their first North American tour since 2016 and will feature the first shows played in the U.S. since their festival appearances in 2019.

The tour, called “Shows of Lost World” will span 30 days across both the U.S. and Canada beginning May 10 to July 1, and will be joined by Scottish post-punk band The Twilight Sad, who have previously opened for the goth band.

Possible new album to be released with the new tour

The tour will begin in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center and features three dates at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl from May 23-25, and another three at New York’s Madison Square Garden from June 20-22.

The tour announcement is also giving fans hope that a new album will be released.

Back in 2019, when the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Trent Reznor, frontman Robert Smith hinted at a new album during the band’s acceptance speech.

“If I’m optimistic it will be finished before the start of this summer,” but no album came out. Later in March 2022, Smith told NME that the band had two projected albums set to be released in the future, the first being ‘Songs of a Lost World’.

“I know what it’s called – it’s called ‘Songs Of A Lost World’. It’s got artwork, it’s got a running order, it’s almost done! They’re so slow because of vinyl, but it might come in September [2022]. I’d rather it just came out. I can’t stand the anticipation.” Smith said.

The album was expected to be released before the band’s European tour in October 2022, but again, no album was released. New music, however, was played during the European dates.
