The film that NASA has described as ahead of its time in space science, which anticipated how we would travel to the Moon

Science fiction is one of the genres that has stood out the most in the film industry, with all kinds of works and major franchises that have captivated millions of people over the decades. In many cases, space serves as the central theme of these stories, showing just how vast the universe can be and, at times, attempting to portray ideas that are close to what science actually says.

Interstellar is the first movie that comes to mind for many people, but NASA once highlighted a film that is nearly 100 years old as one of the most accurate when it comes to scientific concepts.

The film is Woman in the Moon, a classic directed by Fritz Lang and released in 1929.

A Film in Which Fritz Lang Worked with Leading Scientists

The German director consulted scientists such as Hermann Oberth and Willy Ley, which allowed the movie to predict with surprising accuracy several elements that are still used today in space travel. These include the countdown before launching a rocket, the use of multistage rockets, and even the use of water to dissipate heat.

Lang was far ahead of his time and created a film that was even banned by the Nazi government in Germany between 1933 and 1945 because it included elements resembling the V-2 rocket, which at the time was a national secret.

What does the synopsis of Woman in the Moon say?

“Thirty years ago, Professor Georg Manfeldt was ridiculed by his colleagues when he claimed that there was more gold in any mountain on the Moon than on Earth. Three decades later, Wolf Helius revisits the idea and attempts to build a rocket to travel to the Moon. More people gradually join the project. A company that controls the gold market agrees to finance it, but it has hidden intentions: to gain control over the supply of gold on Earth.
