The Peabody Awards are back for their 83rd year, and this year’s winners have officially been announced.

From entertainment on TV to radio and podcast shows, this award has been given out to 35 of pop culture’s biggest and most powerful stories of 2023.

In a recent press release, Jeffrey Jones, who is the executive director of the Peabody Awards, explained his reasoning and drive toward selecting this year’s recipients.

“Representing a wide range of mediums, genres, and narrative approaches, this year’s winners continue to advance what it means to craft storytelling that is compelling, powerful, and prescient,” Jones wrote.

“Whether capturing the lives of teachers in Philadelphia or young women in Afghanistan, these stories are powerful enough to make us laugh, cry, and learn. They are all deserving of this honor, and we are thrilled to shine a light on their amazing achievement. All citizens should seek out, watch, and engage these winners.”

When do the Peabody Awards take place?

Although the winners of each category have been revealed, the official ceremony date is set for June 11, 2023. This marks the first time since 2019 that the celebratory award show will take place in person at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

What are the Peabody Awards?

The George Foster Peabody Awards program, which is named after the American businessman and philanthropist George Peabody, was created in 1941 as a way to honor the most powerful, enlightening, and invigorating stories in television, radio, and online media.
