Former actress Amanda Bynes was found naked and roaming the streets of Los Angeles back on March 19. The actress then flagged down a car and told the driver she was coming down from a psychiatric episode before dialing 911 on herself.

Bynes was taken to a police station where a mental health team placed her on a psychiatric hold. Now, three weeks later, Bynes remains in a mental health facility.

Bynes’ current situation

According to TMZ reports, Bynes’ extended stay is of her own volition while her release date is still “undetermined.”

“Those around her are already formulating a plan to make sure she stays on the right path,” the report reads.

Inside sources claim that Bynes has agreed to enroll in an outpatient mental health treatment program when she leaves the facility she’s currently in.

End of conservatorship

The incident occurred about a year following the end of her almost nine-year conservatorship in March 2022.

Bynes’ mother, Lynn, served as Bynes’ conservator, while her father, Rick, was an interested party in the case.

She thanked her fans in an Instagram video ahead of the hearing: “What’s up, Instagram? Amanda Bynes here. My court date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all so much for your love and support. Peace out.”

Her struggles with mental health and substance abuse

In 2014, Bynes announced on Twitter that she had been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and manic depression. She’s also struggled with substance abuse since she was 16 years old.

In a previous interview, Bynes stated that she started smoking maijuana at 16, which set her down a path that led to using harder drugs.

“I literally couldn’t stand my appearance in the movie [Easy A] and I didn’t like my performance,” Bynes said. “I was absolutely convinced I needed to stop acting after seeing it.

“I was high on marijuana when I saw that but for some reason it really started to affect me.”
