The final week of season 21 of ‘The Bachelorette’ proved to be quite the rollercoaster, with the engagement of Jenn Trann and Devin Strader lasting only a matter of minutes, to the TV viewer at least.

The season finale, which aired on Tuesday (September 3), saw Jenn and Devin get engaged in Hawaii after she proposed to him.

But on the After the Final Rose ceremony, filmed weeks later but broadcast immediately after, the 26-year-old physician assistant revealed they were no longer living happily ever after.

“Things were different” after Hawaii

“We left Hawaii engaged,” a tearful Jenn explained to host Jesse Palmer. “I thought I found the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. As soon as we left Hawaii, things were different.

“He basically said he didn’t love me anymore and didn’t feel the same way. He was checked out. It wasn’t what he wanted anymore.”

Devin had reassured Jenn of his commitment to their relationship a number of times on the show, with the phrase “I love the thought of forever with you,” even leaving his lips at one stage.

But the freight company owner broke off their engagement in a 15-minute phone call about a month before their awkward reunion during After the Final Rose.

“I have nothing to gain by being here other than to make sure that you’re okay, which is what I came here to do,” Devin pleaded with Jenn as they excruciatingly watched the proposal back together, which many viewers felt was cruel of broadcaster ABC.

“I am heartbroken every Monday night watching the lies you said to me on TV,” she revealed.

“I did make a lot of promises and at the time I fully believed them,” he claimed. “That man loved you. I understand that I couldn’t keep promises that I made to you.”

How many ‘Bachelorette’ couples are still together?

A severe and very public case of cold feet, it seems, as yet another ‘Bachelorette’ relationship bites the dust. Since the series began in 2003, it is believed only four of the 21 couples who have got engaged are still together.
