The times Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reprised their ‘Breaking Bad’ roles

‘Breaking Bad’ ended back in 2013, but the duo can’t help but reprise their roles from the hit series.

Breaking Bad

‘Breaking Bad’ fans will be delighted by the news that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are reprising their roles from the famed series for the Super Bowl.

The duo will be promoting PopCorners in a commercial that will be written and directed by Vince Gilligan - the man who created the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe. Joining them will be Tuco Salamanca, played by Raymond Cruz.

While ‘Breaking Bad’ said goodbye to viewers in the explosive series finale ‘Felina’ back on September 29, 2013, Cranston and Paul have both shown they can’t turn down an invitation to reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

El Camino

It took six years for Cranston and Paul to reprise their ‘Breaking Bad’ roles when they took to Netflix in the 2019 thriller, ‘El Camino’.

The film served as a sequel and epilogue to the television series. The movie focused on Pinkman as he ran away from his captors and authorities shortly after the events of ‘Breaking Bad’s finale.

There are plenty of flashbacks in the movie, with names like Matt Jones and Jonathan Banks also reprising their roles as Badger and Mike Ehrmantraut.

The movie received a digital release on Netflix and then a limited theatrical run on October 11, 2019. It also garnered several award nominations, including Best Movie Made for Television at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and Best Motion Picture Made for Television at the Satellite Awards.

Better Call Saul flashback scenes

Just three years after ‘El Camino’, the duo made their return in the AMC hit ‘Better Call Saul’, which showed the moral decline of Jimmy McGill (played by Bob Odenkirk) as he becomes the criminal-defence attorney Saul Goodman.

Cranston and Paul returned in the aptly titled episode ‘Breaking Bad’ in the show’s sixth and final season.

The scene was the first of three that were shot for ‘Better Call Saul’, as Paul made a short appearance in the following episode ‘Waterworks’, while Cranston appeared in the series finale ‘Saul Gone’.

Their appearance was treated with the utmost of secrecy, as both actors were kept out of sight while filming took place in Albuquerque.

Super Bowl LVII commercial

The latest return to the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe will happen on Super Bowl Sunday in a commercial for PopCorners.

Just six months after their appearance on ‘Better Call Saul’, Cranston explained what brought the duo together once again.

“The people at PopCorners may have heard interviews about how much we enjoy working together, and I’m not sure how they conceived the idea,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“But once we heard the creative behind it and what they wanted to do, to really reestablish the authenticity of the characters, the wardrobe, the RV and all that, we were intrigued.”

Asked whether this is the last time he’ll feature in the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe, Cranston wouldn’t close the door on it entirely.

“Who knows? It could be. I’m not sure, but... you know, we’ll just leave it to the fates,” he said.
