The winning formula? Christopher Nolan reunites with Interstellar star for The Odyssey
The legendary British filmmaker won two Academy Awards for Oppenheimer and is set to release his 13th movie next year.

Filming is set to begin on the next film from legendary director Christopher Nolan, 'The Odyssey'. The movie, Nolan’s 13th as director, is an adaptation of Homer’s epic Greek poem and has attracted big named to the project.
The new movie is set to hit theatres in the United States on July 17, 2026 and will feature Matt Damon as the eponymous hero. Damon links up with Nolan for the third time after played more minor roles in two wildly successful movies.
Damon played Dr Mann in ‘Interstellar’, the film which was nominated in five categories at the 87th Academy Awards. He had a bigger role in ‘Oppenheimer’ as Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project. That movie garnered 13 nominations at the 96th Academy Awards and won Best Picture and Best Director for Nolan.
Who is in the cast for The Odyssey?
This is the first time that Matt Damon will have a leading role in a Christopher Nolan film but he has long been an admirer of his work. In 2023, Damon revealed that a promise to his wife, Luciana, that he would take time off from acting, had included a ‘Nolan exemption’.
“I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off," Damon said, explaining his decision to return for Oppenheimer. “I actually negotiated in couples therapy — this is a true story — the one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called."
He did, and Damon was back in the game. And he’s not the only one that’s drawn to anything Christopher Nolan. ‘The Odyssey’ has already attracted an incredible list of reported cast members.
Empire reports that Tom Holland, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Anne Hathaway, Jon Bernthal and Charlize Theron are all a part of a huge ensemble cast. It had been thought that Holland was going to play Odysseus but Damon’s appearance on the first film poster suggests otherwise, or that Holland is in line to portray a ‘young Odysseus ’ in the narrative.
