This actress moved to the U.S. with her son for five months to film a Marvel movie—and she appears for only 90 seconds

Thunderbolts* was supposed to make her a leading player, but in the end she was left with just one line of dialogue.

Sometimes actors who are promised a major role in what looks like a hit movie end up appearing on screen almost like extras.

It happened to Adrien Brody, who was originally set to have a much bigger role in Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line but ultimately appeared only briefly, with little impact on the story. Something similar also happened to Simone Ashley in the summer movie that was expected to launch her Hollywood career, F1: The Movie, where all of her dialogue was cut.

The same thing appears to have happened last year to French-Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko, whose role as Taskmaster in Black Widow seemed to open the door for her to play a major part in Thunderbolts*, Marvel’s team-up movie centered on antiheroes and outcasts. However, multiple production delays caused by the 2023 Writers Guild strike led to script rewrites, and her character was one of the biggest casualties.

Thunderbolts*: the career opportunity that turned into a letdown

Olga Kurylenko, known for being the Bond girl in Quantum of Solace and for starring opposite Tom Cruise in Oblivion, spoke to the French outlet Diverto about her disappointment with Marvel:

“Basically, we packed up all our things. I pulled my son out of school. We moved to Atlanta for five months. We rented a house and everything,” the actress explained.

But in the final cut of the film, her character appears on screen for only 90 seconds and delivers a single line before being shot by Ava Starr/Ghost.

With the Marvel multiverse, you can never say never, but this seems likely to be Antonia Dreykov’s final appearance and the end of Kurylenko’s collaboration with the studio. The actress does, however, have new projects on the horizon, including the French horror film O.T.H.E.R.
