Royal Family
This is the college where Kate Middleton and Prince William’s children will study after convincing King Charles
The youngest generation of the British royal family will split from tradition and not attend the world-renowned Eton College.
A decision has reportedly been made regarding the education of the next generation of British royals; Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
The children of Prince William and Kate Middleton will attend at appropriately illustrious school, but they will not be following in the footsteps of their father and many other royals. Reports suggest that the trio will be schooled at Marlborough College, a private boarding school location in the county of Wiltshire, around an hour from London.
It is one of the oldest boarding schools in the United Kingdom, having been founded by the Dean of Manchester, George Hull Bowers, in 1843.
Marlborough College is the same school that Kate Middleton, alongside siblings Pippa and James, attended. This means that George, Charlotte and Louis will not be sent to Eton College, when father William and uncle Harry attended. The decision to take the children to Marlborough means that all three will stay together. Eton remains a boys-only school.
How much does the Royal Family pay for schooling?
Marlborough College, although not boasting the same name recognition as Eton, is still regarded as one of the country’s elite secondary schools.
Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman, Nobel laureate Sir Peter Medawar and wartime poet Siegfried Sassoon all went to Marlborough College. More recently, comedian Jack Whitehall, Archbishop of Canterbury Geoffrey Fisher and music producer Frederick Gibson - better known as Fred Again - are all alumni.
As you may have expected, the cost of attending Marlborough is not cheap. Fees for boarders are currently set at £50,985 per year, or around $64,000.
The school is comprised of just over 1,000 pupils with an additional 445 sixth formers. it’s located on 286 acres of historic down land, centered around a 4,000-year-old Neolithic Mound in the market town of Marlborough.
